What is the significance of the red heifer in the ceremonial cleansing from contamination described in the book of Numbers 19?

    d Kresge,
The Red Heifer is part of a preparation and cleansing ceremony.
Now days it is believed the read heifer ceremony must be done eith before the third temple is built or as the first act in the new temple (I forget which).
The charcoal ashes of the red heifer are used to purify water and that works.
Charcoal is still used in several effort to purify certain things,
    Peace and kindness,
    Fred
