    Mercedes ignition switch
I have a 95 Mercedes 280 and the ignition is hard to turn over sometimes. I could not get it started the other day. Our mechanic says he can no longer do any work on ignition on Mercedes, have to go through the dealer. I took it to the dealer, they called today and said it would cost $1,000 to replace the ignition switch. The car is only worth 9,000, please help. Is the dealer cheating us? What should it cost? Thanks so much.

I also drive a MB and have had nothing but problems with it - mine is a 2007.

If an independent won't work on it I don't see that you have any choice but to have the dealer make the repairs.

Would I put $1,000 into a car worth $9,000? No.

If the MB dealer is the only mechanic who will work on the car what he charges is what it will cost.
