I got married in Reno.. however then learned that my now husband is still in the middle of his divorce... does this make the marriage void? And when his divorce is final does that mean our marriage is now valid? Or can I just throw away the cert and it never happened?? Really desperately need the answer to this question!:confused:

He's a bigamist. You need to consult an attorney on this matter. And no, once he is divorced you marriage isn't just "valid".

The state that issued the license may need to be notified so they can void the marriage

But it is not valid at this time and will never be valid, since it could not be at the time
In fact he is now actually a criminal, since you can not legally marry two people at the same time in the US.

So once the divorce is final, assuming you would still want to marry someone who I guess lied to you about his divorce, you will have to have a new wedding

Your questions are very easy to answer.

Your marriage is void as a matter of law because you husband was not divorced from his other wife when he married you. It's really that simple. And the finality of his divorce from his wife will not validate your marriage so yes, you should just consider yourself unmarried because it is exactly correct to say your marriage to him never happened. As a matter of law it did not. That's what void means.

Now, in spite of what I said, many people in your situation will file for nullity (called annulment in many places) because it creates a nice paper trail that demonstates you are not legally married. But technically you don't have to do it (I personally think it is a good idea).
