I am a Brazilian citizen, and I spent 4 months in US (Nov 08 to Mar 09) working as a J1 (Work and Travel Program).
Now I was trying to get my tax return. This company that I was wondering to do my returns is going to charge me 80 bucks to do this, a price that I don't agree with, since my return isn't much.
Could you guys help me to do my taxes by myself?
I looked a lot on the internet and I couldn't find much about it, like forms that I need to fill out, how fill them out, treaty, etc.

On J1 you will file nonresident tax return From 1040NR_EZ with Form 8843. You can complete it yourself.

On your 2008 tax return you will report income from Nov 08 to Dec 08. If your income in 2008 is less than $3500, you are not required to file tax return. You only file Form 8843.

Just fixing. The taxes are from December 2007 trhu March 2008. :)
So, I fill out those two forms, and send to IRS with my w2's, a copy of my social security card, a copy of my DS 2019 form?
Is that everything?

1. Dec 07 income is reported on 2007 tax return, which is separate from 2008 tax return. If in 2007 your income was less than $3400, you are not required to file tax return.
2. For 2008, you will attach W2 and Form 8843. You do not attach copy of SS card or DS2019.

Hello MukatA, I've tried to fill the forms out, but I still have some doubts about them. For example, on Form 8843 part III (students) it asks on fields 9 -14 about the institution I've attended, since I am a student doing this Work and Travel Program, I don't attend at any institution here in US, I just worked, so should I fill this out with the institution that I attend in Brazil?
The other question is on form 1040NR-EZ, fields 3-26. Ok, I have these 2 W2's, those are the data on them:

w2 1:
1 Wages: 4609.46
2 Federal income tax withheld: 50.89
3 SS Wages: 3898.76
4 SS tax withheld 241.72
5 Medicare Wages 3898.76
6 Medicare tax withheld 56.53

w2 2:
1 Wages: 2355.08
2 Federal income tax withheld: 191.65
3 SS Wages: 0.00
4 SS tax withheld 0.00
5 Medicare Wages 0.00
6 Medicare tax withheld 0.00

(As a J-1 I am exempt of paying SS, MEdicare, Fica.. and I am at WA so, no State taxes).

So I don't know how to fill most of the fields, if you please could help me, it'd be great! :)
