How to safely remove coins from capsules?
    Hello friends,
In an effort to place what coins I need to, in their proper albums I need to safely remove a lot of them from their US Mint capsules. What is the best method/s for doing this? How do the major coin grading services accomplish this feat. Your help will be forever appreciated. (No hack saw jokes, either! Lol)

Curtisst - THIS ismy thought on this ,AND I Didn't know if you had thought about it this way ,I'm going to susgest a couple of reasons (I would not remove them their sealed capsule: #1 - once they are removed from the mint capsule ,they are no longer a MINT SET OR PROOF SET< THEY LOOSE A LOT OF THEIR SET VALUE<AND SOMETIMES THAT CAN BE QUITE A LOT:: #2- Once removed they are rxposed to all kinds of elements, that ARE GOING TO BE HARMFUL TO THE COINS<(A) AIR,HEAT,coolness,DAMPNESS,ECT,ECT, AND A LOT OF THEIR VALUE CAN DROP A WHOLE LOT :: IN answer to the other QUESTION - I think that they have a special kind of compress that they use to make the capsule open,IT probley compresses from all four sides at the same time, I'M only gusseing! GOOD LUCK IF YOU DECIDE TO OPEN THEM UP < ONE way you could possibly do it would be to take a very small chisel type or a strong bladed knife and tap them on the sides ,right in the center of the edges and pop them open .
Please be careful in doing this though ;; Let me know how you come out on this ;; HOPE I HAVE HELPED YOU OUT SOME WAY:: HAVE A GREAT DAY AND GOD BLESS:: F.B.E.

    Hello Flying Eagle,
Thank you for the input. Believe me, I know about the dangers of exposing the coins but I always use fresh cotton gloves to handle my coins and these will be going into better albums with none of the cardboard and inherent acids that could affect them. Hmmm... a chisel? There has got to be a safer way. I'm pretty sure that these capsules are sonically welded which probably means that they are "spot" welded, not completely all the way around. This might mean there will be a spot to get at them more easily with a careful hand and thin, strong, blade to maybe "pop" the capsule open. Of course, I will have to have a nice soft shammy cloth to catch them wit. I'm still mulling this over though and thank you for the tips.
