How do I remove an old shower drain pipe?
We have removed the old shower stall and are trying to remove the old drain pipe. We dug down to the T but can't get the pipe out.

    Hi Etexpat...

Most likely that is a cast iron drain pipe that has been leaded into a fitting... you would need to melt or drill the old lead out to remove the pipe and then you would need to pour a new lead joint if you wanted to reuse the pipe doing it the old-fashioned way... ;)

However, your best bet here will be to use a reciprocating saw (sawzall) with a bimetal blade to cut the drain pipe and then you can transition over to PVC pipe using a shielded clamp (see picture). You will need to order a 2" cast iron x 2" PVC shielded clamp.

Let me know if this all makes sense... O.K.
