How many cracks are normal in a new house?
My house is 5 years old and 98% of all my door casings are separating at the both corners- several of the windows are separating and the fire place is also separating - by separating I mean there is now a small gap. I am worried that the house may have a structural issue.

Do you have a humidifier? If the house is to dry it will cause the wood to pull back.

Who's the builder here. This level of separations is NOT normal. The separation at the 45 miter casing can separate if they were not finished nailed to the corners. That's nailing through both miters together. That could explain poor craftsmanship.

But what's exactly going on with the fireplace?

Exactly where on the windows are the gaps. Trim miters, sills.jambs??

When adding that I'm concerned here. Is this a development house and how are the neighbors houses?
