Hunter ceiling fan / light w/remote wiring
I have a Hunter ceiling 3 speed fan with light that uses a remote control. The fixture was removed for ceiling painting and now I can not get it wired correctly. From the fixture there are 4 colored wires that match the 4 colored wires for the relay box inside the canopy. Also from the fixture is a single white wire and single red wire. The relay box has a separate white and black wire. From the ceiling there are the standard white and black wires. I would guess that the 3 white all connect together but when I connect the 2 blacks and the red wire together I can not turn the fan off.
Question - Where does the red wire from the fixture connect to? If I cap it I can hear that the motor is on but the fan does not turn.
    Many thanks

Please list what color wires you have from the fan, from the receiver, and from the ceiling.

From the fan/ light unit there is a bundle containing 1 pink, yellow, black with white stripe & grey wire. There is also a red wire and a white wire

The remote relay which fits into the canopy contains the matching bundle of wires above, yellow, pink, grey & black w/ white wire. From the other side of the relay remote there is an all black wire and a white wire.

From the ceiling there is the all black wire and white wire. There is not a ground green wire or any blue wires

The 3 speed fan and the light are to be controlled via a remote with the power switch on wall always in the on position. I would guess that the matching bundle of colored wires all fasten together and the white and black wires from the ceiling fasten to the white and black from the relay remote. The wall and canopy remote are set the same.

When I connect the red wire to the 2 black wires the fan motor is on and turning. The remote will change the speed but won't turn it off. I can only turn it off from the wall switch. I connected all 3 white wires together.
The light seems to work properly.

Something is not right with the red wire or perhaps the connection of all 3 white wires together. If I remove the red from the 2 black wires and cap it and push the fan remote I can hear the motor but it does not turn.

Is it possible some of the wires got pulled out? The one side of the receiver and the fan should match exactly.

You may need to order a new receiver from Hunter.

Do I have to have the light fixure in order to get the fan to work?
