Hi We are looking to turn a shop into living quarters. What does it take to add a bathroom and kitchen. Is it hard/expensive to get the plumbing in there for this. Thank you any info/thoughts would be appriciated. At the beginning of the process, the shop is about 5 years old.

It takes a lot of money. Without knowing the specifics here and now layouts size etc I really can't give you a close figure.

A bathroom could be $6,000 to $12,000 +

Kitchen $25,000 to $50,000 +

It may take a lot of money if you need a septic system and the waterline that will feed the building is hard to get to the shop.

Distance and depth of existing mains would be a great start. A plot plan showing the buildings and the driveways would be very helpful.

Next would be a drawing showing the size of the shop and where you would like to put the bath and kitchen. Will this area reguire a heating system?Will the windows meet code for the sleeping area?

Before we can tell you what you need we must know what you have. Make us a drawing showing the fixture placement, the nearest connection to water and sewer, etc. In short we need more details before we can comment. Regards, Tom
