Multiple state tax filing -Potential W2 discrepancy
    Hi,
I am a resident of NJ working in NJ & a few hours in NY state. I have received W2's for both states from my company. Help answer my questions as I am at a total loss at what to do.
    1. My wages on NJ W2 exceed Fedreal W2 wages, is that normal?
    2. Do I need to file IT-2 or IT-203 or both for NY?
    3. My NY & NJ W2's state the full compensation/whole income instead of partial income based on time I spent working in NY & NJ. Are the W2's correct?
    4. I have been provided with an Annual Tax adjustment report by my company, which shows my actual earnings in NY state, and I have been asked to use the numbers from this report instead of W2. Is that the right way to proceed since the numbers on W2 and my numbers on the return filed will not be the same?

    Appreciate help.
    Thanks

Your NY income is income based on time spent in NY.
Your NJ income is your total income for the year including NY income. On NJ return, claim credit for taxes paid to NY.
