Dome Lights and Rear View Lights won't shutoff!
    Hello All,

I have a 2004 Sunfire Se. As of late (4 days ago actually) my dome light and my lights on the rear-view mirror keep coming on at the wrong times. When I start my car and I'm in park they are on and stay on (forever). When I am driving and I come up to a red light, or a stop sign or whenever I stop completely they come on but then they shut off when I start driving again. Also when I turn the car off they stay on (all night)! I was told that it was a short in my wire, I was told it could be something to do with my alternator, I was also told it could be my lmp relay. Which I reset but did no good!

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks In Advance.

My first thought is that the switch for the trunk lid is not being depressed all the way. That leads me to a few questions that can narrow it down:

Has the car been wrecked? (any kind of collision, minor fender bender, rear ended, backed into something?) Does the trunk shut like it should?

All this assumes that there IS a switch for the trunk. I'm not real familiar with the sunfire in particular.

Well, if you're referring to the button under my steering-wheel that pops open my trunk then YES it's got a switch. No it hasn't gotten in any wrecks or bender fenders!

Oops, I meant a contact switch in the trunk. It likely be on a bracket at the hinge point for the trunk lid. One that is pressed when the lid is closed.

I'm not sure I will look in the morning and then I'll reply! If there is I will clear up it's path and play with that a little!

It may have been knocked loose while loading something in/out of the trunk, I've done it before, and only learned about it after waking up to a dead battery.

Ok, I was looking at my trunk this morning, and I don't see any switch or anything. All I see is the latch for the trunk unless it's embedded onto the latch somewhere some kind of swing arm to disengage the lights but I'm not sure. I don't have the manula either LOL

Would the latch have some gizmo on it that could have came loose?

That's unlikely. The light switch would probably be on the brackets for the hinges.

On the hinges for the trunk? If so, I didn't look there. I was told that it could be a faulty door button thingy. IDK
