    Problems uninstalling Yahoo Messenger
I've been running the uninstall program on Yahoo Messenger for over six hours now. It doesn't appear to have done anything. It is still trying to unregister yahoo\messenger\ymsgr_tray.exe.

What can I do to uninstall this program. We don't use it at all and want it off our computer!

Do I need to reinstall it to uninstall it?

    Thanks!

Reinstalling and then uninstalling is one thing you can try. Another possibility is to try the "Revo Uninstaller":

    http://www.revouninstaller.com/

When you uninstall it, you'll be asked to select a level of searching through the registry.

The final possibility is fairly complicated:

Browse for C:\Program Files\. Delete the Yahoo or Yahoo! Or Yahoo messenger directory and everything in it.

Download CCleaner from: CCleaner - Home

Run CCleaner. Click on the "Options" tab (left side), then the "Advanced" button. Uncheck the box labeled "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours".

Click on the "Cleaner" tab (left side) and click the "Run Cleaner" button (bottom right).

Click on the "Registry" tab (left side). Click the "Scan for Issues" button (bottom). When the scan is complete, click "Fix Selected Issues" and (You can create a backup if you are nervous) select "Fix All Selected Issues". Repeat the "Scan for Issues" and "Fix All Selected Issues" until no more problems appear -- or the same problem repears repeatedly. It will take at least two scans; possibly three.

Finally, open Registry Editor by running the regedit.exe file (Start | Run | Regedit.exe | OK) and locate the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ registry entry, delete the Yahoo key and all subkeys underneath it. Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ registry entry. If there is a Yahoo registry entry, delete that key and all subkeys underneath it. Exit Registry Editor.

Reboot your computer. The Yahoo Messenger should be gone.
