    I am married but my wife doesn’t have SSN and ITIN number
    I am married but my wife doesn’t have SSN and ITIN number. We satyed in the USA about 7 months. Currently we are in India. Now I am trying to e fill tax return then it’s asking for wife SSN. From india can we apply for the ITIN number, if yes please let me know the procedure of it or can I fill separately after keeping the SSN filed blank?
    Please advise.

    When did you enter and left the U.S. Your visa status.

    We did enter on 26th January 2008 in USA and left on 29th August 2008. Our VISA is still valid, its valid up to 30th September 2009.

    You CANNOT file jointly with your wife as residents.

    You CAN a dual-status return and claim you wife as a dependent, so, yes, you can get an ITIN for her.

    Further, you will be able to claim daily living expenses while in the U.S. because your stay was for LESS than one year.
