I have bought a choc. Brown labrador puppy but he is constantly biting us.

I have 2 kids age 8 and 12 and very concerned he gives the a bad nip.

Have tried to raise voice but him on his blanked and tell him he is bad but this seems to make him even more aggressive.

Is there anything you can suggest for now as I have him booked in for puppy training but that does not start for another 2 weeks.

Is he biting seriously or just playing? Also how old is he?
If you have ever watched puppies playing they really go nuts biting each other and they have such sharp baby teeth, as they grow older the biting of hands usually turns into the biting of your table legs and eventually toys.
Booking in for training is a great idea. And in the meantime you will just have to put on your best crabby voice and say "no" until he grows out of it.

He is biting seriously and is 10 weeks old.

That's strange, I've never had a puppy that young be aggressive before...

How To Stop A Puppy From Biting Nipping & Mouthing

Young labs are pretty nippy. I had a lab years ago and had a terrible time getting her to stop. I tried everything the experts suggested and none of it worked. So one day I was thinking about how mothers teach their pups and I decided to try something rather unconventional. I bit her back. Not hard, of course, just a bit of a nip to the back of her neck, the fleshy part. And she got incredibly indignant and started barking at me. The next time she nipped, I did the same thing. I did it a few more times and the nipping stopped entirely after that.

As I say, it's unconventional, and it's something you may not be interested in trying. But it is something that dogs understand since, as I say, this is how mothers teach their babies.

My retriever was a nightmare for puppy biting too. I promise, they do eventually grow out of it. He will still gently grab hands every now and then when he gets very excited but its pretty rare and never hurts. You and your children need to teach your puppy what is called bite inhibition. He needs to understand that peoples skin is a lot more sensitive than another dogs and he needs to be more gentle. Try this and teach your children to do the same: as soon as his teeth touch your skin, yelp loudly and then ignore him for several minutes. This means ignoring him completely, don't even look at him. He will hate this and try to get your attention but do not give in. If you are consistent this should help. It is the way puppies behave when play fighting with a brother or sister gets too rough and hurts. Another idea is every time he bites you, offer him a toy that he is allowed to bite and reward him with praise and affection when he bites that instead. This way, you are giving him an alternative behaviour. I wouldn't let puppy play unsupervised with your children. If they lash out at him and hurt him because he hurts them, he could end up aggressive towards children. When he gets over-excited, put him in another room until he calms down. Reward him for calm behaviour always with attention, praise and even tit bits if these do not excite him too much. Make sure he is allowed to rest as much as he needs to or he may get grumpy.
