I live in the state of Tn . I have a unit that run natural gas for heat and electric for air but it need to be replace from a 2.0 to a 2.5 unit. I want to know will it be cheaper to run on a heat pump and electric or keep my natural gas and electric air. Also keep th R-22 or go the R-410 freezone.

The warmer your winter climate is, the more practical a heat pump becomes. In sub-freezing weather, it won't be adequate alone and will require either a supplemental or auxiliary heating source. In warmer heating weather, the heating output of a heat pump can exceed it's power consumption by as much as 4 to 1. Go with the R-410A, as the phase-out of R-22 is driving the price up. Any qualified contractor should be able to provide energy facts to assist you in your decision.
