    No internet on new laptop
We have recently bought a new laptop and cannot connect it to the internet. We already have a laptop which we use on a daily basis so we know there isn't a problem with the modem/router. We were told to enter the password which is on the back of the modem, but still no internet, getting frustrated now as it was a present for my son and he cannot use it - any suggestions??

All passwords are case sensitive so ensure Caps Lock is NOT ON. After that , re-check all connections. If the internet connect is through a plug-in card, remove & reseat it. The final answer is contacting or returning the laptop to its vendor.

Is it connecting to wireless internet? If so go to control panel and make sure the wireless card is installed and working

I am unfamiliar with some manufacturers, but I know most newer HP laptops have a wireless button above the F-keys. It is used to enable and disable the wireless feature on the laptop.

Also, I assume you're running Vista, so you can type "ncpa.cpl" into the search box at the bottom. It will bring up your network connections". See if your wireless card listing is there and enabled. Then verify what Fr_Chuck said.
