With the car in park and the engine on, why is the drive light also on and blinking?

Does it continually blink? Or does it pause and start blinking again?
In later model cars, this is a way of diagnostics, and is sending a transmission code.
This is where it's really important to state your model, make, and year of your vehicle!!
