Hi there. I'm a student with a lot of questions about a project I'm working on. I'm taking a HVAC /piping class and I'm having a lot of trouble managing to get things done properly for my piping assignment.

I have to build a house with standard piping (hot and cold) to the main fixtures in the house. However I'm confused in many places

1) when calculating the pressure loss of the piping, where can I find standards necessary for calculation (pipe diameters of fixtures, montreal city pressure most importantly)

2) I did a whole bunch of calculations and my pipe diamter for the house coming from the city is 2 inches. Does this seem reasonable?

3) how do I calculate the final pipe pressure loss is I have equivalent pipe lengths?

4) I've designed a large house, and have over 200 feet of pipe (the house is 10000sq ft)

Ziggy, the diameter of the pipe does not determine the pressure but it does change the volume. A 2" main is very generous, most homes have less. Run your main trunk lines with 1' pipe and then make your branches 3/4" for large fixtures like a tub and the rest can be 1/2". There is adrop in gpm with smaller pipes but not in psi.

My condominium building has 20 apartments with 30 bathrooms. It is served by 2" pipe...

Hey Ziggy,
No problem! Static pressure= Multiply .434 by the height and you'll come up with the head pressure. In other words for a 10 foot head you'll have 4.34 PSI of static or head pressure.
