    Bleeding while pregnant
I found out last Thursday that I am pregnant. So I am about 5 weeks and I started bleeding yesterday (on my birthday :() It is like a period but I have no cramps and have not passed any clots. It is usually dark red and mucousy (sorry if tmi). I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and I wanted to know if everything would be OK. I had no problems like this with my first pregnancy so it freaked me out when I started bleeding. I went to the doc today for them to draw blook to check my hCG levels and I have to go back Friday for more blood. Any imput would be great, thanks!

Sorry I could not answer you sooner, I was at work.

Now, this could be a number of things, however, only your doctor can tell you the definite cause.

It could be just early pregnancy spotting. This can be common in early pregnancy.

It could be a placenta previa, meaning that the placenta is closer to the cervix than higher up in the uterus.

Did you have sex within the 24 hours prior to the bleeding? It could be that the vascular pregnant cervix got slightly irritated during sex causing bleeding.

And the worst, which I hope it's not, it could be the beginning of a miscarriage.

Please call and discuss this with your doctor.
