    HP 7410 All-in-one printer
    Friends :) ,
Does anyone here have experience with trouble shooting the HP 7410 printer. The HP technical help is the absolute worst. They replaced my printer that had a hardware failure with a referbed. Now no matter what I do the drivers will not work. I am techy gone construction guy so I am experienced with this stuff but I have forgotten allot as well. All I know is that I have been trying to get this printer working for 2 days and it just will not. I have gone through 5 tech guys at HP and they can't help. The software that HP has is funky. Is any one experienced with this product that has had success with fixing driver errors. If you run a self test page it will print the letters but the graphics at the top come out all smeared and globbed. If you then try to print again It will start to print, line up the print head, load the paper then just hang. Hang the print que, hang the spooler, hang the printer. It will print using the HP 550c driver but not the correct 7410 driver. It does the same thing on my lap top as well. This is so frustrating... :(
    Thanks

This has nothing to do with drivers. You need to call HP and demand that you get a fully tested and certified replacement printer.

I agree with Casey. I've had some experience with that whole line of OfficeJets (from 5510 up to 7410). I've never had any problem with any of them.

Not knowing what the techs had you do, the only fault I can find with them is they should have had you return the unit right away.

I do have a problem with a statement like; "I have gone through 5 tech guys at HP and they can't help." I suspect that each tech gave you several things to try. Which means they DID help, they just didn't resolve the problem. Your statement makes it sound like they couldn't provide any support. HP recently won a JD Powers award for their support. So making a statement that their support "is the absolute worst", seems to go against other experiences. I'm not disputing your bad experience, but I think it's the exception rather than the rule.

The best way to tell if a printer is physically faulty is to do the printer's self test. Somewhere in the manual there should be an instruction of how to do this. It should be possible to print a test page without being connected to any PC.

If that doesn't work, I would definitely send it back!

For all you people who have dried up ink cartridges and the self cleaning doesn't help and you think that there is still ink in there, try the following.
Have a tissue ready and run some very hot water. Put the ink slots under this running pressure for a minute. Then shake down hard and press the cartridge against the tissue. You may see the colors showing up on the tissue. If so, dry the cartridge good and try in the printer. If it doesn't work any better then you will have to buy a new ink. I'm a 77 year old tech and have rejuvenated many cartridges this way. Especially my wife's Lexmark because she doesn't use the printer enough. Should print a test page at least once a week!

I just saw this post today & my first time being on this forum (ie, just joined today) and you probably already trashed the machine. I do not have any experience with that specific machine, but as far as drivers go, try the following, if you have not done so already:
    (1) Uninstall the driver & verify the device does not show up as a selectable printer.
    (2) Reboot/Restart your PC
    (3) Install the new/latest or original driver per your preference.
    (4) Try testing for your problem being resolved or not.
    (5) Even if it works OK, Restart the PC again and re-test.
    (6) If the problem still exists and you have another printer available to hook-up to your PC, try the same test to verify that it is not some other software that got messed up somehow.
That is as far as I can take you for now.
    Regards, Mark
