    Unsupervised probation
My son went away to college and transferred his probation; his probation officer visited his dorm on a regular schedule. When he transferred schools over a year ago his new probation officer has never come to his house and therefore has not drug tested him all this time. Are there laws protecting my son and could this hurt him as far as getting off probation when he is supposed to?

    Hello b:

NOT being drug tested isn't going to hurt.

There aren't laws that specifically protect your son. But, there are laws that force the authorities to END the probation when the courts tell them to END it.

Ordinarily, they don't need to be told. They'll just end it in the normal course of events. I wouldn't count on it, however, and I'd have my son be communicating with them by mail concerning his end date.
