Married, worked in different states till Dec08
    Hi

I got married in April last year and me and my husband worked in different states, me in Idaho and my husband in NewJersey, until Dec 08. From Dec 08 my husband started working for a different employer in Idaho. So, he received two W2s, one for New Jersey and one for Idaho.

1)Can we file federal taxes as Married Filing Jointly?
2)How do we go about filing the state taxes? What should be the filing status for Idaho and New Jersey?

Please advice. Thank you for the help.

    Thanks

    1. Yes.
    2. You will also file joint return.
For Idaho, you are resident and will report all your income. Your husband is part year resident and will report income earned in Dec 808.
For NJ, you are nonresident with no NJ income. Your husband is part year resident with income up to Dec 08.

    Hi Mukat,
I called the Idaho tax division and they asked me to file form43(for part year residents) as my husband is a part year resident, though I am a full year resident.

I have been trying to call NJ tax division, but without luck. Do you know what form I need to file for NJ, now that I am a non-resident and my husband is a part-year resident?

    Thank you very much
