If a non-biological father signs a birth certificate is he responsible for the child?
Okay, here is my question. Me and my boyfriend have been together for 2 and 1/2 years and love each other very much. I messed up and cheated on him about 7 months ago - a one night stand kind of thing (alcohol was involved). But anyway, I came clean and told him. I also told him I understood if he didn't want to be with me anymore. He decided to give me a second chance. A month later we found out I was pregnant. My boyfriend said he wants to raise the child as his no matter what, but is not ready to get married. We don't want to get a paternity test. I called the other guy who may be the father and told him I was pregnant. He asked me if I would be with him. I said no, and he said "fine, call me in nine months if the baby looks likes me." Honestly, I do not think he would be a stand up father for my child. I also highly doubt that if I do not contact him I will ever hear from him again. Now I am seven months pregnant and have many questions. First, if my boyfriend signs the birth certificate is he responsible for the child until she is 18? Or, if we break up and he decides he doesn't want anything to do with me, can he ask for a paternity test and have no legal obligation to the child? Better than desperate housewives huh?
