In this verse satan was tempting Christ, Satan was twisting what is written in The Word, Satan provoked that "if" Christ was the Son of God, that Christ would do as he told Christ to do.

My question is, how many different examples are there found in this one temptation, that tells us satan is twisting the truth? And how does the answer Christ gives, show us our way?

Matthew 4:5-6 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Matthew 4:7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Reference what is written (Psalms 91:11-16) compared to what satan said is written...

Remember that satan knows the scripture far better than the average man. Was he twisting the scripture? No I don't really think so. I think it was more an omission on his part.

I agree with you, Satan does know the scriptures far better then the average person.. That is why it would be easy for the weak babe to give suck to his temptations.

However because of that fact, I feel if we compare what was written in Psalm 91:11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Then ask ourselves, what is the way we are kept? or all the ways? The answer should be Christ.. Christ is the way (John 14:6) Christ is the light (John 8:12)

Satan would tempt each of us everyday, and say (lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.) Satan trys to make people follow him at any time... should we be kept from dash thy foot against a stone when we walk in darkness or with satan ... That is not truth

I find "The Word" as truth, and is the flesh of Christ.. The Word as it is written keeps us in His Way... Christ keeps us in His Way...

Plus look at how Christ answered... would it be tempting God to do as we please, and not stay in His ways?

In a real life situation one of the best ways to be sure your path is straight is to have believers that are always available to help and guide you in your walk.

Are you saying that man can not be of help to keep us on the right path to God.
I think that I have been helped in many ways by a great many people to do that.
Just one example are those who have helped me understand Holy Scripture.
There are those here at this help desk who have added much to my understanding.
I'm now 76 years old and still learning with the help I have found here and other places done by people.
I think God intended that to be so, that we and be of help for each other.
I often have been able to harvest from the fruit that others have produced.

I think sndbay emphasizes on the ''guide you'' when he refers to men.
His point is do no let men guide you and that's different from being helped by men. Of course Christ is our guide ,the head, and we all are parts of the one body.
A hand cannot guide the rest of the body, only the head can and the head is always Jesus!
Now , let's get back to descerning, I find this an interesting subject!

As followers of Christ we are to love one another. The revelation of Christ comes from God to those who follow what is written in The Word = The Flesh that walked this earth showing us The Way. All the ways are what Christ did, he did as His Father told Him.

Our Father gave us his begotten Son, He did this out of Love for us. This was not because of something we did or deserved to obtain. Chirst was given out of the pureness of Our Father's Love, from His Grace.

We then either believe Christ is the begotten Son of God, and do follow Him in faith, or we walk in darkness with those of this world.

Discerning always The Way. (reproofs of instruction [are] the way of life) Proverbs 6:23

By that faith in the Begotten Son, and from the Love/Grace of Our Father, we are saved. Not by anything other then God! (Eph 2:5 Eph 2:8)

For we are created in Christ, His workmanship and not man's.. To walk in Goodness, Love, the Light, His Way (Eph 2:10)

None of what you learn which is of goodness from God comes by man, but what each are given to plant comes from God, in their heart of love for God. It was first given by God! Individual choice to follow what God sent..

I take no credit for what is in my heart of love for Our Lord. What I have referenced comes from His Way, His Truth, His Love.


Each should be thankful to Our Lord, not man!

Fred: A farm knows that he can plant a seed... But it is his faith in God who allows the seed to product, and grow, that brings the fruit. No one other then God makes that seed bring fruit..

No, that is not what I am saying. God is our guide and director. But he can and will use other people to step in and correct us. If you are not accountable to those in authority over you there is not guidance. Just like at work, You have a boss, he has a boss and so on until someone high up makes the decisions that ultimately effect you.

I feel God steps in to correct us if it is His Will to do so. God also allows us to reap from what we sow. The experiences of life do build our charter, yet never does God give us more then we can bear. If by choice we follow a friend's advice without reproof of instruction to what is written, then God will permit us the delusion of what we have permitted in our hearts. ( 2 Thessalinians 2:11-12)

It is the desire of heart to follow Christ and His Truth which through His ways we find salvation. (2 Thessalinians 2:13)

Proverbs 1:23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

Furthermore,I cannot say that I love Jesus and at the same time not recognize what the Lord through others has made for my own good!I am thankful not only to my Lord but also to my brothers through all the centuries for every thing that they made for me so that I , today can stand in the name of Jesus!
Jesus says , You will not see me again until you say blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord and by ''he'' the Lord means whoever comes in the name of the Lord!
It could be anyone,Catholic,Protestant,Pentecostal,Orthodox... As long as he comes in the name of the Lord!
Now,for the Lord's temptation... As a friend of mine once said, a hook is of no use without a bate and the bate is always a bit of Truth.

It was by their hand but by God's Will given to them.. (In God's Glory and not man), I put my trust in God, His power and strength is written within the scripture (Psalm 23)

The hand of servants of God,(John 12:26) they walked in the way which was In the Spirit of God.. In Love... Remaining a servant as Christ showed us, (John 5:30) a servant to His Father's Will. (Matthew11:7)

Scripture is Our Father's Truth, brought forth and made Flesh in Christ..Our Father brings forth His Truth to whom He Chooses, as His Will be done.

Jeremiah 33:2-3 Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD [is] his name; Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

We are told to walk in Christ, His way is as He walked in His Father, we do so by walking in Christ. And that we give glory to One (Romans 15:6)

Here is the answer for all of you. It seems to me that we have gone far away from the orriginal question.

Luk 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

What this say's is that the holy spirit is a guid to all of us. Jesus was a man, do not forget that. We are lead by God's spirit. That is how you discern satan's lies. It really is quite simple. If you are filled with the Holy spirit and listen to what God say's to you, through that you cannot falter.

God does not wish us to be lead astray. He know's that satan is crafty. "he is like a lion seeking whom he may devour" The enemy knows the bible more than we do he can twist and contort thing's to make us believe anything is truth. That is why God has given us the Holy spirit to help us discern. God has not left us high and dry.

It is simply a matter of listening to and obeying the Holy spirit.

Although I agree with the hearing and to obey, we can read thoughtout scripture the evidence to man's foolishness, and it is definitely an issue of destruction. So it not a simple matter, yet the solution when we are willing to walk in Christ Ways are known as the simplicity that is in Christ.

Warning throughout scripture show us of enticing words that can beguile us, and vainly puff up our minds with pride. (Col2:4 Col 2:18)

Does everyman follow by loving everyone, even their enemies?

I think of the message in scripture which tells us to heap coals upon the head of our enemy. When I was a child it seemed evil to do so ... As an adult, I know the real meaning of the message. .. Women would carry hot coals in pots on their head from one home to another. It was to start the fire for the warnth of the home and feed their family.

So scripture is telling us to do the same for our enemies (or) for those co-worker you can't seem to get along with each day. To begin fresh with a new day of hope, love, and warmth being feed.

This is also as Christ did for us.. We are each sinful, and we are the frustation our Lord watches... But His love offered us a fresh start, a new way to our day. In hope, love and being feed.

Do we follow... do we hear... do we walk in Christ each day?

We need to submit daily and fill ourselves with the word and surround ourselves with those who walk the same path.

I have fallen victim to satan's snare's many times. The thing I have realized through out my life is, man has a wonderful way of confusing everything that is said in the bible.

If we have coininea with our brother's and sister's in Christ and we walk daily with the holy spirit there is less of a chance that we will falter.

We are human how ever so unfortunately we cannot obtain perfection. The sooner that we as the church realize this, the sooner we can begin to actually work with each other on our problem's.
