Heat pump and compressor issue. My compressor outside goes on and off every 20 to 30 seconds when the heat comes on in the house. I have turned the emergency heat on instead. What may be the problem with the main heating system?

Based on what you describe, my first thought is that the refrigerant charge has leaked down, and a pressure-sensing switch is short-cycling the unit.
