You can run it off the battery, or you can buy a power inverter at any computer store which will allow you to plug the power adaptor to the car electrical system. The one thing to be aware of it don't leave the laptop in to open (for fear of theft), and don't leave it in the direct sunlight for any length of time (due to potential damage due to heating effects).

Some states if not all have a law against dvd players etc in the front seat for the driver to view. Distracted driver law, check with your state DMV on laptop use.

    That is a good point.

I was thinking more of a passenger using the laptop than the driver.

I do it,I built a system using the cigarette lighter accessory plug and a power converter,a portable table made for the use is always welcomed(I own my business and contracts need adjusted sometimes in a flash.)

My van has space between the seats and a table installed allows me to work on the comp, and printer from right behind as well.

With some innovation from you,all things are possible!!

I do it as well, which is sometimes not-so-safe... as I drive with my left hand, bluetooth in ear, and type with my right hand...

... so yeah. Not safe, but... I have too much work.
