Who claims my college student? Her parent or herself?
Hello. I have a question. My daughter is 22 years old. She lives at home for free, and I pay her medical insurance. She is a full time student. She pays for her college and school loans. She also works full time and made over $33,000 in 2008. Do I claim her as a dependent, or does she claim herself?

You can't claim her as she earned $33,000 in income. The fact she lives free at your house is good and all, but the fact she made all that money last year negates you from claiming her.

That is not quite accurate. Her age and her status as a full-time student allows you to claim her as a dependent, even though she made over $33,000.

Now, it may be more advantageous for her to claim herself. I would have to model both your and her return to be sure, but you claiming her as a dependent IS an option available to you.
