My father past away when I was four and my mother when I was five years old. I always pray to my mom and talk to her when I'm sad. But I was just wondering is there really any way to get intouch with her? And I'm not talking about spending lots and lots of money for it. All I want to do is talk to her or see her or get a sign. And I'm not even sure if its possible.

I don't think that's stupid at all. Losing both your parents at such a young age must have been rough. For you to hold onto your love for them, keeping them in your heart and your prayers, is a very good thing. It shows you are strong and good.

There are all kinds of ways you can get in touch with your parents. In many cultures, African and Native American, for example, many people believe that their ancestors do stay present in their lives, giving them wisdom and strength. Whenever you are in a difficult situation and you suddenly feel you are up to it, you feel a confidence or bravery within yourself, you are free to choose to believe that is your parents, working within your heart. Maybe someone could never objectively prove that they are present, but likewise, no one could ever prove they are not. Another way that many people connect with loved ones who have died is in dreams. Or you may find strange and unexpected blessings come into your life, or there are strange synchronicities of events.

A part of you may always doubt whether these things are real signs of your parents' presence, or just your imagination. We all have that little doubting voice in our heads. It serves a valuable purpose, keeping us from doing foolish things. But in this kind of circumstance, that little voice doesn't really have anything constructive to offer.

Have you ever heard of the Amazing Randi? He is a stage magician and a skeptic. He has publicly offered $1,000,000 to anyone who can prove the paranormal exists. But he's also said he knows he can set up the test, and define "proof" in such a way that he will never have to pay. With those caveats, I could safely offer a million to anyone who could prove that dogs exist!

What is proof? How can you be sure? What is real? When it comes to your beliefs and your interpretation of your spiritual experience, the answer is that you can choose what is proof for you. The test of a spiritual belief is not is it "true" in the sense of being scientifically testable. The real test of a spiritual belief is how it affects you. By choosing to believe you can touch your parents in your prayers, does that make you a better person? Do you lead a more moral, more fulfilling, happier life if you believe it? If so, then hold to your belief, and do not let anyone take that treasure from you.

Im very sorry you lost both your parents.. I lost my dad a 1 1/2 year ago... its very hard... I wish I had an answer for you.. all I can say is just pray, ask God if he will give you a dream of her, get to hear her voice, know she's OK. Dreams help.
