    USA/Italy treaty for taxes?.
I have an Italian passport, and I am now working as an opera singer with a O1 VISA for a couple of months in a major Opera Company in USA.

    Two questions:

What's the roof of gross earnings for not being taxed when they will pay me at the end of the gig?

I just got the "allowance" cheque for housing contribution.

I was quite surprised to see that they took off the 30% of taxes as well from the housing... is that fair?

    Thanks!

A 30% withholding for a lump sum payment is pretty standard.

Now, without a thorough examination of the U.S.-Italy tax treaty, I cannot comment definitively as to what taxes you owe, but it looks like you are liable for incometaxs (state and federal).
