    Where are you located? What state? Here in Ohio we have a lot of clay soil and the grass grows great once it's started. Just "scratch" the top of the soil, broadcast your grass seed, and water every day until the seed sprouts. Some people like to put straw on top of the seed to keep the birds away.

    There's a product called Permatil that you can mix with clay soil to loosen it up so the grass can grow.
