It's based on many factors, on a case by case basis: "The court shall consider all relevant economic factors, including but not limited to: (1) The standard of living established while married. (2) The length of the marriage. (3) The age and health of each party. (4) The financial resources and assets of each party. (5) When applicable, the time necessary for either party to acquire sufficient education or training to enable such party to find appropriate employment. (6) The contribution of each party to the marriage, including, but not limited to, services rendered in homemaking, child care, education, and career building of the other party. (7) All sources of income available to either party. The court may consider any other factor necessary to do equity and justice between the parties. "

Thank you. I have to come up with $5000 retainer or at least half and be in a position to pay the balance within a few months in order to hire a good divorce attorney in my area. You may be able to answer another question for me, my husband and I are partners in a business 50/50 - he is also founder of a non profit company and I am the co-founder-because of our marrital status being related parties I can not take an income from the non profit so he does and my income from the for profit is significantly lower than his-he pays all the bills now but I am moving into my own apartment in 2 weeks so I am wondering if you have any suggestions for me?
