    Rent Increase Due to Newborn?
I'm on a month-to-month lease and my landlord gave me a hand written notice that due to the newborn (my 2 week old grandson) being in the apartment, my rent would be increased.

There is nothing in my lease that states an increase will take effect due to a "newborn" and if I'm understanding this right, he has to give me a 30 day notice of the increase + a valid reason why the rent (which has not been increased the past 3 years I've lived there) is being increased.

Is this not a form of discrimination? Families with children pay a higher rent?

    Please help...

As a periodic tenant, the rental amount can be changed with one reantal period's notice. Nor does the landlord have to give a reason, especially if they haven't raised the rent in 3 years.

Having additional occupants is perfectly valid reason for a rent increase. Its not discrimination.
