Loud cracking noises from floor
I live on the 2nd floor of a 3 story apartment building. Once the weather got cooler in October (It's in California, so it's not THAT cold.), the floor above began making really LOUD cracking noises when the tenants above walk around. The cracking noises are loud enough to wake me and the sound ripples across the ceiling. It even jumps from one room to another. That is, they may step on one area in the living room above, and the crack travels across the width of the living room and into the bedroom.
The maintenance man said the floors are of wood with concrete over top, and then there is carpeting on top of the concrete. So, these are not wood floors they are walking on and creaking as wood sometimes does.
There are no visible cracks in my ceiling. I am concerned of the structural safety of the floor above as well as the noise is driving me crazy. What could possibly be wrong with the floor above and how could they fix it? (As of now, there are unwilling to do anything.)
Thanks for any help.
