Do I still have a yeast infection?
Almost a month and a half ago I noticed some itching and my clitoris and labia were really swollen. I decided to take monistat 1 even though I never had a yeast infection before. I didn't notice whether I had discharge or not at this point because of the cream. After taking the monistat I was ten times more uncomfortable. Two days later I went to the gyno and she took a look and said that I had a yeast infection. I asked if she needed to do a culture and she said no because she was sure by how red I was down there. She also mentioned she saw a little bit of blood. She gave me one dose of diflucan and I started my period the next day. In the next few days all of my symptoms got a lot better. But still, within the next 2 weeks I was noticing a persistent clumpy white discharge and decided to go back to the gyno. Again, she looked and poked around but, no culture, she gave me a prescription for 2 doses of diflucan. A week later, I still had some clumps. I called up the gyno and was prescribed 3 inserts of cream, that was almost 2 weeks ago now. I still have some clumps. I haven't had any other symptoms besides this discharge for a long time now. Do I have a yeast infection anymore? I'm really not sure if a few clumps is healthy. Please help I don't know if I'm being a hypochondriac or not!!

You should have NO clumps. A culture for a yeast infection is not necessary. To those of us in women's health it is obvious to the trained eye.

Now, have you been taking any antibiotics? Having unprotected sex?

Me and my boyfriend have had unprotected sex a few times because I'm on the pill... even though I know that won't stop from transmitting a disease. The thing is I asked my gyno the first time I went to her with this infection when I should be okay to have sex, and she said when I have no symptoms. I did wait over a week and I thought I had no symptoms, at first. But after a while I started questioning these clumps, I couldn't remember if they were normal or not. So I asked my boyfriend if his penis was itchy sore red etc and he looks and feels perfectly fine. Dammit. I geuss I have to wait even longer now... but how long?

He still may be transmitting the yeast infection to you. Men don't have symptoms like we do. It may be that he has to get treated as well.

He has no health insurance, will the cream my gyno has prescribed me be effective for him?

You can get this cream over-the-counter. Monostat or any antifungal cream will work.
