    Lung cancer
I just received news a few days ago that my mother in law has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Doctors found a 2 cm dark spot in her lung. Today she is going to see a specialist, I guess they will tell her what steps are going to be taken. The family is devestaed. I just want to know if anyone has any noledge to this diesease and what is the survival rate and is 3 cm considered small. I think my mother in law is not going to tell us the whole truth, she is trying to make it look like its no big deal.

If she wants to keep it in the "no big deal" category in her mind please don't try to escalate the severity. How would you feel if you had cancer and were thinking "It's no big deal, I can beat this." and your family members kept saying "You're going to die, we don't want you to die." Negative energy can wear down a person's resolve to fight.

This is a scary time for everyone but especially for her since she's the one who has the condition. The doctors will give her the information she needs as far as treatment is concerned. The thing you can do to help is be supportive of her. Spend time with her, help her with things like laundry, shopping, etc. as the treatments start and she needs her energy for getting better instead of chores.

It's time for you to truly come into adulthood by taking on the role of parent care. It's a tough shift in responsibility but you can do it. Best of luck to all of you! We are here if you just need to vent your emotions.

I can't add much to what Ber has said, although, being a cancer survivor myself (breast), I can say that he/she is correct.

I absolutely hated the pity that was given me when I felt strong and that I would survive this. It hurt my spirit for people to feel sorry for me.

Now, I don't know about her particular survival rate, that is dependent on a number of factors, including a good attitude and outlook.
