    Slow Draining Bathtub
I moved into my house about 8 months ago and recently the bathtub has been draining slower and slower. I purchased a snake and after doing some reading on this website removed the overflow drain and tried to get the snake down but ran into trouble. The stopper on the drain is not actually connected to anything and it seems that it has been that way for a while and I am unable to pass the snake down the overflow drain. I tried removing the overflow drain and stopper but even with force it will not come out. Suggestions?

    Thanks, Matt

    Matt'

I had a the same problem in my house. I never did get the snake through the tub but I did remove the sink trap and get in the system that way. As it turned out the clog was of long hair far down the pipe where it went to the vert and it did the trick. Good luck at least it is easy try.

The stopper's connected by wire linkage( see two images) that's let go. The stopper, (plunger) has a cross bar on the top that the linkage connects to. Put a small hook in a coathanger and go fishing for it. When you remove the stopper snake from the overflow, (see image). You shouldn't have to put out much over 8 or 10 feet of snake. After you finished reconnectthe stopper and reinstall the assembly. Good luck and thank you for rating my answer. Tom
