Have you had recent intercourse, pelvic exam, vaginal scan? Sometimes some slight irritation to the cervix will cause some spotting or light bleeding... and if it was very slight, it may not show up until days later as a brownish discharge.
In most cases, the concern would be more of bright red bleeding, with or without cramping. Give your doctor or midwife a ring for the peace of mind, but unless it continues, becomes bright red, or you start to have cramping, odds are all is well.
