Hello, My Mother Died Early last year so please keep that in mind when answering this Question.

I own a 2004 KIA OPTIMA because my mother in her will wanted me to have the car so I took over it so immediately that day I took it to get New Car Insurance because I didn't want to get into an accident in the future and I don't have insurance and it went smooth however I went to my DMV later that day because My Mother's Name on the Registration card so I needed to get it under my name just in case I get in an accidnet god for bid or get pulled over I want to have all 3 forms of documenation because in the State of Florida without proper Insurance or Registration a cop can get your car impounded (This is what the DMV told me)
So I went to the DMV and they told me I could not get the Registration changed into my name without the Title that shows proof that the vehicle is mine. Now I still have $8000+ until the car is paid off and you can't get the title from the lender until its paid off now what happens if I get into an accident and I don't have my name on the Card?
It is valid until February 2010.

So that's my Question is it okay for me to just keep it in my Mother's Name or Must I find a way to get $8000 and pay the car off in full to get the title to get my name on the Registration?

Because If I got into an accidnet and it was towed there's no way of getting it back without that registration.

Kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place wouldn't you say?

You need to take a copy of your mother's death certificate to the DMV and have a new title issued with your name in place of your mother's.

You may have to prove you inherited the car from her.

1. you can't just go the same day she died and do anything, if there was a will, it has to go though probate court where the judge will issue a order for you to get the car.

2 you may be able to go with a letter from probate that you get the car and a copy of death certificate and get the car registered in your name.

3. Even if you did not, if you insured it under your name and moms name it would still be legally insured.
