    Career as hairstylist
I am a hairstylist and have not worked that long in the field. I want to work as a stylist but I have no confidence and get nervous while doing things I am uncomfortable with. I am told sometimes that other stylists will help you but that never happens. Besides their busy doing their own clients and I cannot bother them all the time. Its enough that I have to ask them how to work the register, etc. but if I look unsure they will not like it and neither will the clients. There are some things that I do not recall how to do since I was never taught in beauty school and I have no way of learning those things. I need someone to help me but do not know anyone who would take the time to mentor me. I have even tried getting a job in another profession but when I do get an interview I am always asked why do you not want to do hair and I merely tell them that I am looking for a career change. I need a job quickly and badly and do not know where to turn to. Do you have any advice for me?

    Hello!!

I totally know how you feel. I myself am a hair stylist but I am currently working in a boring ol' office job. I too get asked why I'm here instead of a salon.

How did you qualify to become a hairstylist if you did not go to beauty school? What can you do? Cut? Colour? Anything else? I'm not really sure where you're from but here in the UK we have refresher courses for hairdressing. It's where you brush up on skills and learn the new stuff. You also get all the support you need by the teachers and help build up your confidence. :)

If you ever need to talk, I'm here for you! XXx

Have you thought about doing an internship to sharpen your skills. Most internships are unpaid (money-wise) but you gain enough experience that it boosts your confidence ((and resume)).
