What do you do with 2 quirky kids?
Desperately need to talk to other parents that have the same dilemma as me. My 7-year old daughter is extremely sensitive and since JK, my husband and I have been to see her teachers numerous times as they don't know what to do with her... I've had an assessment done and the doctor concludes it's her temperament... This doesn't seem to satisfy the teachers in her
Grade 2 class. They seem to think she has 'Aspergers'... and want another assessment done. Now my 3-year old son does not talk.. only a few words. I'm ready to have a melt down.. Both my children are very happy and affectionate but don't seem to fit the "square peg"... is it wrong to have 2 unique children?
    Frustrated Mom.

Experts now say that talking and reading to your toddler is the best way to teach communication, but they also say, toddlers are the best ones to use sign language whereby the parent always knows what they want and therefore, no words are spoken. Do you get my drift. Of course, toddler boys are usually behind girls in the speech, walking, potty training department so I don't think it is unusual for your 3 year old not to be articulate. You could, however, and this will take a time out of your day, is start a regime whereby you teach him verbally, without sign language.

As for your girl, what the heck does the doctor mean 'it is her temperment', You are going to have to have another assessment done, Nikoaiv, two heads are better then one.

Maybe you can pick up some relative information at this Aspergers website. Seeing as you are going to, maybe, get a second opinion, it won't hurt to know a little about the background of this disorder and how to handle it. Remember too, labels are good to have eventually because you can believe that the problem is already half solved, but handling it is another story. Be informed and good luck; it isn't easy being a mom all the time. Our kids are everything to us and anything that helps them get through a day is a good thing.

    Hello N:

Nope, not at all. I'm a little quirky, and so are my kids.
