My 3 year old does not talk
My son is 3 years old, he will not say a word, or he will say it one time and then won't say it again no matter what, he had a hearing test which was normal, he had genetics blood testing which was also normal. He is sweet, affectionate, although he is shy he does play with other children. He did have fine motor skill delay which he has been able to catch up and is now at his level. He was in speech therapy but that did not work, I am scared that he will never speak I need some advice on what to do please I am suffering so much with this.

It will take time. My nephew hardly talks. He will be 4 in August. When he does talk,it's a repeat. He will repeat himself.Example;Elias wants wants wants his daddy.Yes Elias wants his daddy,(hits himself) daddy! We believe he may be autism, but he looks normal.

I've heard from others,it takes time to adjust and talk. Just give him some time.Maybe try telling him ' say yes','say no',sing ABC'S,read a book, and tell him to repeat after you and such.

    Good luck!

I am working with a family that has a similar problem. We referred them to the pediatric unit of the hospital at one of our state universities. They did a comprehensive evaluation that included physical, emtional and developmental issues. They did diagnose the child as on the minor end of the Autism scale and also developed a treatment plan for him that includes speech therapy (yes more speech therapy), an early access education program (our school district provides it! ) and a specialized pre-school program. They indicate that with help the prognosis is excellent. Do you have this available to you? Check with your school district or state universities if you are unsure. It is very possible that your insurance will cover the costs (check first). In our case, the evaluation was covered by Medicaid. Good luck... and don't panic yet. They say boys are slower than girls!

Christiansmomma that is autism. My son has autism and he did the same thing when he was young. He looks normal but hit himself and repeated himself. It sounds like mild autism to me.

My son also didn't talk until he was 5 and a half so have him checked for autism because the sooner he is checked the better.

My three year old doesn't speak in complete sentences often either. He is sweet, affectionate, and plays with other children. We are taking him to a pediatric developmental specialist. We were referred by our pediatrician. We will see what happens.
