    Is this a bad sign?
Ive been having stomach pains for the last 4 months now reg going back to the doctor for tests etc bloods and urine samples have been clear but still have no results back yet from smear test in November. Every time I go back to my doctor he just gives me different antibiotics and painkillers (which I'm not taking as I hve 3 small children so can't afford to be drowsy around them) over the last week or so I have noticed a discharge that sometimes has blood in it.(have had pregnancy tests done each visit to docs and all negative most recent on Thursday also neg) does anyone have any ideas what it could be my doctor has booked me in for a scan but it will take about 8 weeks for an appointment and another 6 weeks for appointment with obgyn to get results.
Im worried now as I don't know what it could be!

Please can anyone help give me an idea what I could be dealing with here?

Not really... are you still waiting for results from a "pap" smear taken in November? That's messed up! You need to call the lab and find out what happened to the results. You describe your pain as "stomach" pain, but you mention discharge... is this actual stomach pain, or abdominal/uterine pain? As vaguely as you describe your symptoms, it could be anything from irritable bowel to fibroids or ovarian cysts, etc. I suggest you continue being a squeaky wheel until you get a clear diagnosis.

A scan will likely give you your best clue since everything else so far has come up negative. It is unfortunate that it is going to take so long for you to be able to have it done and then receive the results. Any possible way of it being done sooner?

Bloody discharge without mestruation could be a sign of a medical emergency. Your doctor will want to put you in immediately. If you have not called the doctor concerning this please do so as this could be a real emergency. It's possible that you could have a self aborted fetus which needs to be cleaned out, or an aborted ectopic pregnancy. It could also be equally possible to have various virulent diseases. Antibiotics will not cause you to be drowsy so if he prescribes them it might be important. And ask him to provide you with non drowsy medication.

At this point though seeking immediate medical attention is your best bet as this could be a sign of more serious problems. If that means temporarily seeing another ob/GYN then so be it. Chances are your doctor lack of success means you should seek a second opinion anyway

Thanks to everyone that has replied so far, I am taking the antibiotics I'm not taking the painkillers. The antibiotics don't seem to be working at all. Each time I go back to my doctor I'm told to wait till the course has finished and when I do and go back again I am prescribed different antibiotics and more painkillers. I've also tried to book another appointment for a smear but have been told they do not want to waste resources until they find out what has happened with my results from the one in November. The pains are at their worst when I get my period. I am sometimes unable to walk with them. I've been trying to arrange a sooner date also for scan but just get told if an appointment is cancelled I could get one sooner that way but it would be going in order of those before me. Im just starting to feel drained I don't know what is wrong and I feel like this has been going on too long now thanks again to everyone that has answered

Are you in the UK? If so, is it bad enough to merit going to A & E?

I don't think so as the pains come and go all day. Its not a constant pain and as my doctor is trying to treat it I would probably just be released with medication.

Hi,it might be an incomplete abortion with retained products of conception which can be really harmful if not treated timely,so its better to have second opinion from a obgynae specialist

I was just wondering because I know some women have gone to A & E when they have had bad stomach pains and have been able to get a scan done there.
Unfortunately, unless things get worse, it looks like you will have to wait for your scheduled appointment... keep checking for cancellations. They may not always ring you, you will have to be the one to check on it on a regular basis.
It is odd that you haven't heard back at least on the November smear test by now. I would double check on that... find out when it was sent in and why it is taking so long.

I have had pregnancy tests done everyweek for the last couple of months so I know that I wasn't pregnant so it can't be that. And I have had blood tests done too in case the hormones just weren't showing up in the urine tests and they were negative too. Periods have been regular and have had no symptoms whatsoever and also on the pill so any pregnancy related problems i.e miscarriage could be ruled out.

Has your doctor checked you for kidney stones?

There may be a secondary cause. Have you been treated to quit smoking, any previous disease that required treatment or are currently taking other prescribed medication. Each one of these can cause serious issues. Have you recently changed your diet or are taking over the counter diet medications. Have you recently travelled to Africa, any one of the Caribbean nations or had relations with anyone from either of those groups. Have you recently discovered mouse or rat feces in your house, had an exterminator for bugs come out or found lice or other bugs in your bed?

These are all questions your doctor should ask. If he fails to ask them then you should ask them yourself if you have any other lifestyle changes make a note of when and what happened, even a simple car accident could explain the problem.
