F1 visa filled 1040 instead 1040NR .how to get money back to IRS?
Hi, I am worried because I used turbotax and I think I filled 1040 but as I am f1 student I think I had to fille the 1040 NR. Today I received my return and it was 300 over because of the stimulus and 400 more because the earned incoming credit. Also I received the amount that appears in the w2.
I think I should have a mistake and I have to return this money back to IRS, but I am afraid because I really do not know how to do that and how to give this money back.

I am here in the us since 2007, and I thought I was resident for tax proposes but I did not know that it doesn't apply for students. I really appreciate your help, thanks

On F1/OPT you are exempt from residency for 5-years. You must file non-resident tax return Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ and Form 8843.

For 2007 you must file amended tax return Form 1040X with properly done nonresident tax return and Form 8843. On Form 1040X Column A is what was on the original return, Column C is what should have been there (that is corrected amounts) and Column B is the difference. Complete these columns and then refigure your tax.
