    Cats and bugs
Why do cats eat flies? My kitten just loves them, he'll go nuts trying to catch them, does whatever it takes and gets on stuff he should trying to get them. We've resorted to catching them for him to keep him from breaking stuff. What is a cats fascination with flies. He don't like any other bugs though he has done the taste test with others. Hates ladybugs. Just flies loves the flies. Why? I don't get it.

Man, I wish my two pin-heads would try to catch a bug once in a while! I guess your kitty just likes the taste- maybe it's a textural thing. Plus, the chase is fun. Cats are natural born hunters (excluding my two, of course), so he enjoys the chase and gets his tasty reward after. :)

They like the hunt, and they like to eat what they kill. Flies are kind of nasty though, so you might try catching moths instead. My guys all LOVE moths. And it's a good source of protein.

My kitten goes nuts for flies. She loves them. Lol funny watching her catch it. She also brings in worms, now that is horrid. I hate worms...

ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE in my Apt when there is something flying around. We have two neutered male cats they are about 2 years old and they just lose their minds when there is a bug. I didn't know cats have a 5 and 1/2 foot vertical leap!! They can literally jump over me when I am standing there (yes I am short)

Oi, bugs being in the house is often just plain bad news. Not only does my cat go nuts, but one of my dogs is right there with him! It's a flurry who can get it first. Leaping, jumping, tripping, climbing over each other. You would think the thing was the finest delicacy in the world.

I had a nasty scare a few years ago when one of my cats went after what turned out to be a black widow. Hate to think what would have happened had he caught and eaten it.

Just look at it this way:

Your cat is the Tiger, the fly is the Deer.

Your cat is trying to be like it's ancestors! Just on a smaller, less harmful scale!

It's even kind of cute isn't it? You wouldn't think it's cute when a Tiger pounds on a Deer!
