Very low water pressure on Kohler K-10412 kitchen faucet
I have very low water pressure (hot and cold) on a less than 1 year old Kohler single control K-10412 kitchen faucet. It's low via the main spout or the spay hose and the problem is not with the aerator. It worked fine up until a few days ago. Any ideas?

It is usually the Aerator or it can be dirt in the cartridge and/or diverter. Also, make sure your angle stops are open all the way.

( run water through the spout without Aerator to see whether it runs full force... )

Milo is correct follow his advice, remove the Areator first run the faucet, clean the Areator and install see how it works, if not then you will need to remove the cartridge as Milo says, to remove the Araetor turn it clock wise, see the image,
    Thanks.

Thanks guys, but even with the aerator removed, the pressure is still very low.

Thanks for letting us know, follow Milo's advice, check the angle valves under the sink they should be fully open, if that is Ok, close the angle valves, open the supply lines at the faucet under the sink get a bucket put the end of the supply line in the bucket open the angle valve if there is a good flow it will tell you that angle valves are OK Next step would be to remove the cartridge flush the faucet front any debris clean or replace the cartridge and install, good Luck.

The problem was that the diverter was clogged with debris. I had to take the entire faucet off and apart to get to the diverter. This is a very poor design, I believe. Thanks for your help.

Check the hot angle valve under the sink to be fully open, if it is and no hot water, close both angle valves under the sink, remove the handle, remove the cartridge, put a towel on top of the faucet open the hot and cold angle valves one at the time and see if the water is flowing this will flush out any debris out, and will show that hot water flowing out if still no hot water, then you need to check the angle valve for proper operation, see the link below, Thanks.

Before you remove the Cartridge, close the hot angle valve disconnect the supply line at the angle valve, place a pan under the angle valve open the angle valve and see if the water is coming out, if it is then the problem is with the faucet remove the cartridge and do as I stated in the post #10, if no water problem is with angle valve, see the picture below, Thanks.

Interestingly enough I just a few minutes ago I replaced the diverter on my K-10412. When I removed the handle, I noticed that the inside casting did not have a big enough hole to the exit spout. So, I took it to my shop and drilled through all the excess slag. The three 1/4" holes really gave me some volume that I never knew was available. Also, there was a lot of calcification in the old diverter hole so I carefully squirted in some muriatic acid to quickly dissolve the calcium. Then I neutralized it with a baking soda solution. If I hadn't used the acid, it would have meant scraping which would ruin the seal with the diverter. I then used 000 steel wool to polish everything up (inside the hole) and applied plumber's grease on the new diverter AND the hole. I did the same to the body o-rings and shaft. This was major surgery. I also applied grease to the bonnet so it would unscrew easily next time. What they should tell us is that this assembly should be cleaned once a year to make sure everything works. Finally, when it was back together, I had GREAT pressure AND the diverter worked right for the FIRST time. When the sprayer is pushed on, ALL WATER SHOULD STOP coming out of the faucet. You should have a nice powerful spray coming out. Now (for the first time in 5 years) this thing works like it should. Obviously Kohler has some quality control issues with its casting operation. This should be corrected immediately. I shouldn't have to drill away the blocking slag in order to get the volume of water that should come out of the faucet. I didn't know that the faucet was supposed to have more volume when I installed it. It was OK,. but now it is GREAT.

John, when you wrote "cartridge" did you mean the valve? I suppose, after removing the handle, I lift off the bonnet, unscrew the mounting nut, do something with the adapter, and lift out the valve. My problem is that the cold runs slowly, but the hot is OK. Supply lines are OK, so I figure that the cold orifice is clogged with debris.

    Hello Andyhandy,

Yes I mean the valve (cartridge) Part number 1016515 open the link and see the image below, close both angle valves under the sink, remove the cartridge, have a towel on top of the faucet, open the cold angle valve for a few seconds to flush out any debris out of the faucet, watch for the flow if it is good do the same on hot side, if both sides are good assemble the faucet and check if you have good flow.

If the cold side is week when the cartridge is removed I would recommend to put some vinegar inside the faucet let it soak for an hour or two try to flush it one more time and assemble see how it work I don’t recommend to use any acid, good luck.
