Lied about abortion then had child, now seeks support
I was wondering if anyone can give me some information on my rights in this case,
    I am from Ontario, Canada

I met a girl, a one night stand, a little later she called me and notified me that she was pregnant. I told her that this was not a good time and I don't believe it would be wise to go through with it, specially how she did not no for sure if it was mine. Since there were other people invovled. She said she was going to get an abortion, I asked if she wanted me to come she said no. Never heard from her again, then about a year ago, she e-mailed me saying that I was a father and the child was born. Now she is taking me to court for support.
Do I have any legal rights since I thought she got an abortion?
Or am I responcible for the support of this child?

    Request a paternity test!

If the child is yours, you will have a support obligation and rights to visitation.

You are responsible for support of the child if its determined that its your child.

You have NO control over whether she chose to get an abortion or not. That decision was hers and now you have to live with it. At the court hearing you demand a paternity test. But I suspect that she has tried to get support from her other partners at the time and their paternity tests were negative so you may be the only one left.

Remember you chose to have sex with her. If it wasn't a "good time" for you to be a father than you should have not had sexual intercourse. Now you may be paying for that decision for the next 18 years.

Of course you have legal rights. But do you really think you wouldn't be liable for support if the child is yours merely because you thought she was going to have an abortion or you wanted her to?
