Take it to a garage or dealership and find out. I know we have a 2001 pontiac grand-am and the engine light stays on but the car is fine it is only a censor that can get reset at a garage!

Attach a code reader or scan tool to the Data Link Connector, located under the dash. It will tell you what's wrong. Many auto parts stores will do this for free.

Frequently, with today's desire for increased fuel economy and reduced emissions, the Check Engine Light (CEL) can come on for a number of things that don't have anything to do with how your engine runs.
A failed solenoid, or even a tiny, microscopic vacuum leak, in the Evaporative Emissions System won't be noticeable by the driver. But both emissions, and to a lesser extent, fuel economy will be affected.
It is because you don't feel these failures like you would a spark plug failed that the CEL is turned on.
