My son has been charged with a crime. His father and I are divorced and he lives with his father in the same state but differnet city. I need a copy of exactly what he was charged with so that I can hire an attorney ( his father wants to wing it!)
If anyone has a suggestion on how to go about getting those records. Am I legally able to get a copy being that I don't have residential custody?
Any other suggestions for this situation. He is a good kid, respectful, with good grades and is involved in school activities. He had a HUGE lapse in judgement and takes full responsibiliy for his actions. Please any advice is appreciated.

You can hire an attorney, they will get a copy of the charge.

You can check the jurisdiction where the crime occurred, they sometimes have records you can research online, but it will be limited information.
