    Outdoor shower drain
    Hi:

We have an outdoor shower in Long Beach Island, NJ, that we have owned for about 12 years. Over the years, the water seems to be draining out of the shower less and less. After just one shower, there is a pool of water. The shower has a wood slat bottom that just drains into the ground. Two years ago we lifted the wood slat bottom and dug out about two inches of dirt. Would this have made the problem worse? Any ideas on how we can solve this issue? You are allowed to have the shower drain directly into the ground. Some of our neighbors seem to have concrete floors in their showers. Please give me any suggestions. Thanks.

Over the years the ground has become saturated with the soap content and will no longer accept the runoff from your drain. I would dig in a little drywell under the wooden grate and let then shower drain into that. Good luck, Tom
