Can other valves be used in Toto toilets
One of my Toto gravity flush, 1.6 GPF, toilets stopped working properly this morning. The water supply will not stop running.

It has a GMax, Toto valve in it that's original since 2001. I forget the toilet model but I think it's the "Drake".

I have two questions. 1. Is there a way to fix these valves or must they be replaced? 2. If it must be replaced, can I use a standard valve from a hardware/plumbing store or must it be a Toto "original" replacement part?

Thank you for any pointers or suggestions.

    Hi Rich:

Is this picture what your toilet looks like? If so,

    1) There are replacement parts available to repair the Toto fill valve... found at a local plumbing supply house that is a distributer for Toto...

    2) It may be easier to just replace the fill valve using a fluidmaster fill valve (see picture) which is available at all home supply stores.

Here, just need to shut the water, flush the toilet, remove any left over water in the tank, loosen/remove the water supply tube connection and then undo the nut holding the old fill valve in place. Then install the rubber sleeve onto the new fill valve and install the fill valve. Hand-tighten the nut plus a 1/2 - 3/4 turn.. do not over-tighten... and then install the water supply tube, etc. Instructions for adjustments are on the inside or outside of the box.

Let me know if need more information...

Yes, that's the Drake I have. I will replace the valve today. I was a bit concerned over some of the descriptions of the Toto replacement parts talking about the original being "high efficiency" for the GMax gravity flush toilet but I think I have a spare fluidmaster in the garage.
Thank you for your quick reply.
